Aquia Church Choral Ensembles

“Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing” – Psalm 100:2

“Those who sing pray twice” – St. Augustine

“The aim and final reason of all music is none else but the glory of God” – J. S. Bach

Aquia Church currently offers two different Choral Ensembles open to adults and high-school age youth who desire to enrich our worship through signing.  Both ensembles perform from the Sunday after Labor day through Trinity Sunday, inclusive, and all levels of experience are welcome.

We are actively looking for new singers to join either or both choirs and interested parties are encouraged to contact our Interim Music Director, Trystan Bennett, at This email address is being protected from spambots. The Sanctuary Choir

The Sanctuary Choir provides musical leadership at the 11:15 AM Service and offers the most diverse selection of music at Aquia Church.  Our repertoire ranges from Gregorian Chant and Renaissance Polyphony to newly composed works and is drawn from both contemporary and ancient sources within the rich Anglican and Episcopal tradition.

Rehearsals are held on Thursday Evenings from 7 PM to 9 PM beginning in the New Building’s Music Room and concluding in the Church’s Choir Loft.

The Gallery Choir

The Gallery Choir provides musical leadership at the 9:00 AM Service and draws its name from the ‘West Gallery Tradition’ of music, also known as ‘Georgian Psalmody’, that would have been prevalent at Aquia Church when constructed in 1753.

In keeping with the name, this ensemble’s repertoire leans more towards the church music that was either composed or prevalent in early America, such as the music of William Billings and the derivative ‘Sacred Harp’ and ‘Southern Harmony’ traditions that would manifest later.  This ensemble offers the unique opportunity to perform Colonial Sacred Music in it’s original context in our actual Colonial-era Church.

This choir is currently rehearsing with the Sanctuary Choir on Thursdays while we recruit more singers.   Rehearsals will be held on Wednesday evenings from 7 PM to 9 PM, beginning in the New Building’s Music Room and concluding in the Church’s Choir Loft.
